Introductory Viola Workshop

Music Enrichment’s Alexandra Campbell will be offering this workshop to introduce violin students to the viola. This workshop series will take place on April 13, 20, 27 and May 4 from 5:00-6:00 in room 1256 in Victoria School. To register, please call the Music Enrichment office. There is no cost for Music Enrichment students to participate. This is a wonderful opportunity for violinists to explore a new instrument!

All-City Choirs Auditions

Our audition/interviews determine student readiness for each ensemble. They are conducted in a friendly, respectful and non-threatening manner. The interview consists of pitch-matching, rhythm and range excercises. In addition, students are asked to sing a simple song that they know well. Swing String Orchestra!

Music Enrichment in partnership with the Edmonton String Players Association, is pleased to announce a unique learning opportunity for advanced strings students.

Cam Neufeld,a well-known local musical adventurer, will be leading a group of 15 students in a series of workshops this April. “The Swing Orchestra project introduces string players to jazz and improvisation. The pieces are drawn from the swing era and are multi-level, best for intermediate/advanced players and could include all strings (violin, viola, cello or bass). In the context of jazz, I would be working with elements of swing feel, harmony, and various approaches to improvisation.” A concert of these pieces would be performed at the end of the session.” Cam Neufeld

Kim Denis

Kimberley Denis, (M.Mus., B.Mus., B.Comm., Mus.Dip., Ed. Dip.) is known for her energy, enthusiasm and laughter both on stage and off. She has directed a variety of ensembles across the province and was nominated for the 2010 Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Emerging Artist Award for her innovative work as a conductor. When not directing a choir, she arranges music, teaches voice at Alberta College, and is the Program Coordinator for the Alberta Choral Federation.

Irene Apanovitch

Irene Apanovitch began to study music in her native city of Minsk, Belarus at the age of five. Since coming to Canada, she has received an undergraduate degree in Music Education from the University of Toronto, and most recently, a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting at the University of Alberta. Irene has participated in conducting workshops in Canada, Europe, and South America and is a proud recipient of academic awards such the Edmonton Cosular Ball Scholarship in International Studies and Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship

John Fedor

Born in Edmonton, John began his cello studies at the age of ten, with Josephine van Lier. He recently received his Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Alberta, under the direction of cellist Tanya Prochazka. John has been teaching cello with the Edmonton Public School Board’s Music Enrichment Program since 2008. He is currently in his first year as conductor for the Senior Orchestra.

Petar Dundjerski

Petar was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia and has lived in Canada since 1994. He received his Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Toronto and continued his studies at the American Academy of Conducting and at the University of Cincinnati. In 2002 he was the Assistant Conductor with the National Academy Orchestra of Canada and in summer of 2004 served as a Resident Conductor at the Banff Centre for the Arts. Petar was the Assistant Conductor in Residence of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra 2006/08. Petar is currently the Director of the University Symphony and Academy Strings Orchestras at the University of Alberta.

Meghan Rayment

Meghan holds a Bachelor of Music from the Augustana Faculty of the University of Alberta, as well as a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Alberta. Meghan has had the pleasure of working with various ensembles in Edmonton and surrounding areas, including the Graduate Recital Choir and Orchestra. Meghan’s academic achievements include the Beryl Barnes Memorial Graduate Award, the John and Logie Drew Graduate Scholarship in Choral Conducting, the Swiss Ethnic Music Award and the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship.
